Academic Support Fee Update
For Fall 2026/Winter 2027 terms, the Academic Support Fee will now be split into three separate fees: the Academic Success Fee, the Student Experience Support Fee and the Enrolment Support Fee. Splitting this fee will not result in any change to the total amount paid by students, nor to the services and functions funded by the fees collected. See below for a full breakdown of these fees and description.
Students are assessed non-instructional fees per term as shown below. For fee purposes, a full-time student must be registered for credit in courses totalling nine or more units of course weight in a term ( 
9).
Auditing students who are not taking courses for credit do not pay non-instructional fees and are not granted the corresponding privileges.

Non-Instructional Fee Rates 2026 - 2027
Mandatory non-instructional fees support non-instructional services for all students. Services supported by the mandatory non-instructional fees are operational, available, and ready to help when students need them.
As is the case every year, there will still be fees that students can opt-out of. This would include costs like the APIRG fee, the SU’s Health & Dental plan, and the Access Fund.

Descriptions of non-instructional fees
This fee is one source of revenue supporting sport, recreation, leisure and physical activity services, including the management, operation and maintenance of sport and recreation facilities and training spaces; the management of physical activity and wellness programs in the areas of group fitness, intramural sports, dance, recreational, sport and leisure activities, and sport clubs; and the administrative and coaching support requirements for Golden Bears and Pandas and Vikings Athletics. Supports the construction of the Physical Activity and Wellness (PAW) Centre. Services available in the PAW Centre include a climbing wall, fitness centre, space for studying, graduate and undergraduate student lounge, gymnasium and a new expanded Steadward Centre.

Supports services and functions directly related to student academic success. (e.g. Augustana Student Services, Accessibility and Accommodations, Undergraduate Research Initiative , Writing Services, Learning Strategies, Academic Success Centre, GPS - Professional Development, IEE (Education Abroad), Student Conduct and Accountability, Student Service Centre and Advisory Services).
This fee is assessed to all on-campus and off-campus graduate and undergraduate students, full-time and part-time.

Supports services and functions related to protecting and enhancing a positive and safe student experience overall, and facilitating successful navigation of student transitions. (e.g. Student Associations Funding, Student Equity and Accessibility, First People’s House, Transition Year Program, Career Centre, Student Affairs, Orientation, Ombuds , Helping Individuals at Risk, Student Financial Support Services, GPS - Awards Services).

SU Dedicated Fees are composed of ten individual fees created through student votes in campus-wide referenda, each of which is designated for a specific purpose. Some of these are administered internally by the Students' Union, whereas the majority of the fees are controlled by independent groups on campus.

Access Fund
The Access Fund offers non-repayable financial assistance for undergraduate students at the University of Alberta. It provides assistance to students who are either ineligible for student loans, have reached the maximum in their student loan amounts or simply do not have access to sufficient funding.

Golden Bears and Pandas Legacy Fund
Implemented in 1991, the Golden Bears and Pandas Legacy Fund "foster[s] the general enhancement of inter-varsity athletics at the University of Alberta." Examples of this include hosting inter-varsity competitions, assisting in non-conference team travel and providing equipment for the Bears and Pandas.

Campus Recreation Enhancement Fund
Provides funds to various campus recreation services and programs to ensure that programs and equipment remain affordable for students. The fee also ensures that facilities offered by the University of Alberta Campus Recreation remain "of high quality, diverse, convenient, accessible, and affordable to students."

APIRG
The Alberta Public Interest Research Group (APIRG) is a student-run, student-funded, non-profit organization dedicated to research, education, advocacy, and action in the public interest. APIRG exists to provide students with resources to be active citizens.

The Gateway
The Gateway is a student-run newspaper at the University of Alberta.

CJSR
CJSR is a student-run radio station at the University of Alberta.

Refugee Student/World University Service of Canada Fund
Implemented in 1988, the Refugee Student Fund or World University Service of Canada Fund (WUSC) welcomes students from abroad, and "foster[s] human development and global understanding through education and training."

Student Legal Services
SLS aims to enable University of Alberta Law Students to give free legal information and assistance to the low income community of Edmonton and to contribute to Legal Reform and Legal Education efforts as they impact on poverty law issues.

SUB Renovation Fund
Approved by student referendum in 2012, this fee exists to fund renovations to Students' Union facilities. A major renovation and expansion of the Students' Union Building, completed in 2015, was funded in part from this fee.

The Landing Fund
The Landing is a student space offering support for gender and sexual diversity. The Landing strives to promote gender equality on a broad scale and advocate for the safe and acceptance of individuals of all genders and sexualities in campus life.

This fee confers membership in the Students' Union to all undergraduate students. Membership entitles a student to use all Students' Union facilities and services. These funds are used by the organization to operate various student services, run annual elections, undertake political advocacy initiatives and run a host of programming activities for the students at the University of Alberta. Part of this fee is used to purchase capital equipment for upgrades to the Students' Union Building and the various businesses operated by the Students' Union.

Provides eligible students unlimited access to regular Edmonton, St Albert and Strathcona County Transit services for Fall (September-December), Winter (January-April), and Spring/Summer (May-August) academic terms.
