Internationally Trained Legal Professionals (ITLP) Program
The University of Alberta’s Post-Bachelor’s Certificate - Internationally Trained Legal Professionals (ITLP) Program is designed for foreign trained legal professionals who wish to practise law in Canada. This Faculty of Law initiative provides an avenue for completing the Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s National Committee on Accreditation process in a supportive classroom environment, and prepares internationally educated legal professionals to enter the Canadian legal profession. Students who successfully complete their NCA requirements at the University of Alberta are not required to write the NCA examinations.
The NCA assesses the legal credentials of all foreign-trained legal professionals in Canada. In its assessment, it determines which additional requirements are necessary to be qualified to practise law. Students who successfully complete their NCA requirements will receive a Certificate of Qualification (CQ) and can then apply to begin the licensing process of any provincial common law jurisdiction law society in Canada.
